Hello! My name is Tara and I am a health coach and culinary nutrition expert based in Houston, Texas, U.S.A.
My passion is teaching people that healthy living doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. l love everything about healthy living, but things weren’t always this way.
Until the ripe age of 43, I felt somewhat invincible. I had no obvious health conditions, but then came a tipping point in my body: one diagnosis after another, one flare after another. If I’m honest, my body was sending me messages in the form of symptoms, but I wasn’t listening. I continued neglecting myself and self-care was a foreign concept.
Hashimoto’s, Lyme disease, adrenal fatigue, estrogen dominance, gluten intolerance, and years of digestive issues emerged. After visiting countless doctors and not getting any better, I knew there had to be another way.
Like most people, my journey into food, health, and wellness started with my own personal crisis.
It’s never too late to make a change
I enrolled at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), the world’s largest nutrition school, and became a health coach. This was the BEST thing I ever did, not just for myself, but for my family and for my life. It was clear that I needed to invest in my wellbeing, which in turn was an overhaul for my whole-being.
Following IIN, I enrolled in The Academy of Culinary Nutrition, which was another life changing and amazing decision. Here I learnt to use ingredients in their whole fresh form, and combine them to make delicious, nutritious, health supportive, and disease preventive recipes. I learned that food truly is medicine.
Things I have changed:
- I have stopped eating foods that don’t benefit my body
- I don’t diet
- I don’t work out obsessively
- I don’t focus on foods that I can’t have or shouldn’t eat. Instead, I focus on the foods that help me feel my best
- Self-care is now a non-negotiable part of my life, AND I’ve learned the importance of listening to my body
My healing continues as I address years of damage done to my gut, hormones, thyroid, and adrenals, as well as the emotional component surrounding it all. Lasting change can’t happen if you don’t get to the underlying cause of your symptoms. This is what I focus on as a coach.
Many years ago, a wise woman once told me that our symptoms are a gift. At the time I didn’t understand the message, and to be quite honest, I thought she was bonkers. Only now do I understand what she was trying to tell me. We don’t wake up one morning with a chronic disease; it takes years to develop. My goal is to help you to build health conscious habits NOW in order to have a great quality of life, disease free. It’s the most important thing we can do for ourselves.
As you can see, my body is keeping me on my toes, but every part of the journey has and continues to teach me some valuable lessons.
It takes work and dedication to break bad habits and develop good ones, trust me I know. Don’t worry, I’m here to show you how.
It’s been a journey and I’m thrilled to share what I’ve learned along the way. I’ll help you to reach your specific health goals through simple, tailored-to-you, food and lifestyle advice that you can actually trust, so you can live a healthy, happy, life on your terms.
A little more about me:
I’m originally from the UK, but I’ve lived in North America for many years. My husband is Danish, and our daughter Francesca is off at university studying criminal justice, so we are officially empty nesters!
I love cooking nutritious meals for my family, connecting with friends, and teaching people about healthy living.
My health journey led me down a path of intense learning and a passion for sharing hope and knowledge with others. Hence, Healthy Living with Tara was born. Here, I offer one-on-one health coaching, group coaching, wellness workshops, cooking classes, grocery tours, and workplace wellness workshops.
